  • March 16 – Canada – A van carrying ten daycare children and a teacher collided with a car in Nicolet, Quebec, killing eight children.[1]
  • July 7 – Spain – A bus collided head-on with a truck near Soria, killing 27 and injuring 13.[2]
  • August 28 – Nigeria – Abuja bus crash. A lorry crushed three buses after its brakes failed, rolling backwards into a crowded bus station, killing over 70. Related riots the next day killed four more people.[3]
  • November 5 – Nigeria – Ibadan road tanker explosion. A petrol tanker ploughed into a traffic jam and exploded, killing around 200.
  • November 27 – Canada – A bus carrying tourists from Taiwan collided head-on with a transport truck inside a tunnel on the Trans-Canada Highway near Revelstoke, British Columbia, killing six and injuring 21.[4]

  • January 27 – Australia – Gerogery level crossing accident. A car was struck by an XPT service traveling at 160 km/h (99 mph), killing five.[6]
  • February 28 – United Kingdom – Selby rail crash. A car was driven off the M62 motorway onto railway tracks, causing the derailment of a passenger train and its subsequent collision with a freight train; the latter killed 10 and injured 82.
  • March 4 – Portugal – Hintze Ribeiro Bridge collapse. A bridge across the Douro river collapsed as a bus and three cars were crossing, killing 59.[7]
