అసోం (పూర్వ పేరు అస్సాం) (অসম) ఈశాన్య భారతదేశం లోని ఒక రాష్ట్రం. దీని రాజధాని దిస్పూర్. హిమాయల పర్వత సానువుల్లో ఉన్న ప్రాంతం చూట్టూ అరుణాచల్ ప్రదేశ్, నాగాలాండ్, మణిపూర్, మిజోరాం, త్రిపుర, మేఘాలయ మొదలైన ఈశాన్య రాష్ట్రాలు ఉన్నాయి. అసోం ముఖ్య వాణిజ్య నగరమైన గౌహాతి సప్త సోదరీ రాష్ట్రాలుగా పిలవబడే ఈశాన్య రాష్ట్రాలకు ముఖద్వారం. ఈ రాష్ట్రాలన్నీ మిగిలిన భారత భూభాగానికి అస్సాంకు పశ్చిమ బెంగాల్తో ఉన్న సరిహద్దుతో కలపబడి ఉన్నాయి. ఈ కురుచైన పట్టీని కోడిమెడ అని వ్యవహరిస్తుంటారు. అసోంకు భూటాన్, బంగ్లాదేశ్ దేశాలతోతో సరిహద్దులు ఉన్నాయి.
