Erik Brofoss (1908–1979) var en norsk økonom, jurist, politiker (Ap) og friidrettsutøver.

Han ble tilknyttet London-regjeringen i 1942, og ble finansminister i Einar Gerhardsens første rene Ap-regjering i 1945. Brofoss ble gjerne forbundet med den nye generasjonen samfunnsøkonomer som ønsket økt bruk av planøkonomiske virkemidler og innføring av nasjonalregnskap for å unngå gjentakelse av mellomkrigstidens økonomiske kriser. I 1947 overtok han Handels- og skipsfartsdepartementet, et departement han selv foreslo opprettet.[3] Dette statsrådsvervet hadde han frem til 1954.
Da Brofoss gikk ut av regjeringen, ble han leder for direksjonen i Norges Bank (tilsvarer posisjonen sentralbanksjef). Som leder av Norges Bank ønsket han at Finansdepartementet, ikke sentralbanken, skulle ha øverste ledelse for makroøkonomisk planlegging, mens Norges Bank til gjengjeld burde få økt innflytelse på kredittpolitikken.[4] Han gikk av i 1970, da han ble direktør for Det internasjonale pengefondet (IMF). Den jobben hadde han frem til 1973.
Brofoss' tanker ble tillagt avgjørende vekt i den økonomiske politikken som ble ført etter andre verdenskrig, og han var den enkeltpersonen som hadde størst innflytelse på norsk økonomisk politikk i etterkrigstiden.[5] Han var særlig opptatt av realøkonomi, det vil si at produksjonen skulle være grunnlaget for levestandarden, ikke pengene.[6]
I sine unge år var Brofoss en meget talentfull friidrettsutøver. I 1928 tok han NM-sølv på 100 meter etter ha løpt på 11,1. I 1930 deltok han i friidrettslandskampen mot Sverige på Bislett stadion. Hans personlige rekord på 100 meter var 10,8, noe som fortsatt er klubbrekord i Kongsberg IF.
Brofoss ble tilbudt begravelse på statens bekostning, men de etterlatte takket nei til dette.
