Philosophia scientiae est pars philosophiae quae fundamenta, methodos, nec non causas et consecutiones scientiae tractat. Praecipua quaestio huius studii hoc est, quid sit scientia, fides theoriarum scientificarum, et finis ultimus scientiae. Haec disciplina cum metaphysica, ontologia, epistemologia convenit, exempli gratia, cum cognationem scientiae et veritatis explorat.
Non convenit inter philosophos de multis principalibus quaestionibus, quae philosophiam scientiae tractant, sicut hoc, num scientia veritatem de rebus inobservabilibus revelare, et num ratiocinationi scientificae potestas dari possit. Praeter has quaestiones generales de tota scientia, philosophi scientiae de quaestionibus disputant, quae ad certas scientias adhibentur (sicut de biologia et physica). Nonnulli philosophi scientiae etiam exitibus hodiernis, qui ex scientia secuti sunt, utuntur ad conclusiones de philosophia ipsa attinendas.
