La saison débute le 5 février 2023 au Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum avec le Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum^[1]. Cette course est suivie par les Bluegreen Vacations Duel, courses qualificatives pour le 65^e Daytona 500 qui se déroule le 19 février au Daytona International Speedway^[2]. La course suivante est la première distribuant des points pour le championnat.

La phase finale se termine le 5 novembre sur le Phoenix Raceway en Arizona^[3],[4].

Kevin Harvick, pilote de la Stewart-Haas Racing et champion 2014 de la Cup Series, a décidé de prendre sa retraite à la fin de la saison 2023^[5].

Joey Logano est le tenant du titre.

Au terme de la saison 2023, c'est Ryan Blaney qui est sacré champion (son premier titre en NASCAR) devant Kyle Larson, William Byron et Christopher Bell. Ty Gibbs est sacré meilleur rookie de la saison et Chevrolet remporte son 41^e titre des constructeurs.

Changements

• La NASCAR a lancé un package « temps humide » pour les circuits courts (short tracks) en 2023 en vue de trouver une solution pour les arrêts causés par la pluie. L'ensemble comprend un essuie-glace, des volets derrière les roues, des feux arrière et des pneus pluie^[6].
• À la suite de problèmes de sécurité rencontrés au cours de la saison précédente (collisions par l'arrière ayant provoqué des commotions cérébrales), la NASCAR a apporté des modifications à la structure arrière des voitures de nouvelle génération (Next Gen (en)) afin de créer une plus grande zone de déformation dans l'espoir qu'elle réduira l'énergie des impacts. L'ajustement comprend également de légères modifications de la section centrale de la voiture^[7].

Calendrier 2023 et podium des courses

Le programme de la saison 2023 a été dévoilé le 14 septembre 2022^[8] Le Daytona 500 se déroule le dimanche 19 février^[2]. La finale se déroule au Phoenix Raceway lors du premier weekend du moins de novembre^[3]. Le Busch Light Clash a lieu le 5 février au Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum pour la deuxième année consécutive, une semaine avant le Super Bowl LVII et deux semaines avant le Daytona 500^[1].
