Visaginas on runsaan 21 000 asukkaan kaupunkikunta Utenan läänissä, Liettuan itäosassa. Kaupungin lähellä sijaitsee Liettuan suurin järvi Drūkšiai.[2][3][4]
Visaginas perustettiin vuonna 1975 asutuskeskukseksi Ignalinan ydinvoimalan työntekijöille. Aluksi eli vuoteen 1992 saakka kaupungin nimi oli Liettuan kommunistisen puolueen ensimmäisen pääsihteerin Antanas Sniečkusin mukaan Sniečkus (ven. Снечкус). Visaginas sai kaupunginoikeudet vuonna 1977 ja 1996 otettiin käyttöön kaupungin nykyinen vaakuna.[2]
Kaupunki väestöltään on Ignalinan ydinvoimalan seurauksena maan venäläisvaltaisimpia. Väestönlaskennan (2011) tilastojen valossa kaupungin etninen jakauma oli seuraava:[8]

Kaupungin tärkein elinkeino oli sähköntuotanto: Liettuan ainut ydinvoimala, Ignalina, sijaitsi lähellä kaupunkia. Voimalassa työskenteli yli 5000 ihmistä. Voimalaitos suljettiin lopullisesti 31. joulukuuta 2009. Vanhan voimalaitoksen viereen aiotaan rakentaa uusi ydinvoimalaitos. [2] Visaginasin rautatieasema tuo raideyhteyden niin Vilnaan, Daugavpilsiin kuin Pietariinkin. [9][10][3][4]
Kaupungissa toimii: ammattikorkeakoulu, 6 yläastetta, ala-aste, 8 päiväkotia, musiikin- ja akrobatian oppilaitokset ja urheilukeskus. Visaginasissa toimii 11 urheiluseuraa, joissa on yhteensä 1600 jäsentä. Kaupungissa järjestetään vuosittain "Visaginas Country" -kantrimusiikkifestivaali. [2]
