1-四氢萘酮是一种二环芳香烃和酮。就其结构而言，它也可以视作跟苯结合的环己酮。它是有淡淡气味的无色油状液体，^[4]用作农用和医用药品的起始物料。1-四氢萘酮的碳骨架出现于某些天然产物，例如用于中医学的马兜铃科植物的Aristelegone A（4,7-二甲基-6-甲氧基-1-四氢萘酮）中。^[5]

通过四氢化萘的氧化

1933年，海因里希·霍克（Heinrich Hock）讲述过，四氢化萘往往会被空气中的氧自然氧化，慢慢生成1-氢过氧化物（英语：hydroperoxide）。^[6]在Cr³⁺^[7]或Cu²⁺溶液的催化下，四氢化萘会在空气下氧化，通过氢过氧化物中间体生成1-四氢萘醇和1-四氢萘酮的混合物。^[8]

主要成分1-四氢萘酮（255-257 °C）和次要成分1-四氢萘醇（255 °C）的沸点^[2]基本一样，所以后者会通过化学反应去除。^[9]

通过傅-克反应

初始化合物4-苯基丁酸可以通过使用钯接触催化剂，将3-苯甲酰丙酸催化氢化取得。^[4]3-苯甲酰丙酸则可以经过苯和琥珀酸酐的Haworth反应（傅-克反应反应的变化）取得。^[10]

4-苯基丁酸环化成1-四氢萘酮的反应可以被多聚磷酸^[4]和甲基磺酸催化。^[11]

它被描述为一个化学课的教学实验。^{[需要解释]}^[12]4-苯基丁酸也可通过在强路易斯酸催化剂（如双(三氟甲磺酰基)酰胺铋（Bi(NTf₂)₃））存在下加热1-四氢萘酮而成。^[13]^[14]

使用酰氯和氯化锡的反应时间比4-苯基丁酸的傅-克酰化反应的短得多。^[9]

Synthese von 1-Tetralon über 4-Phenylbuttersäurechlorid

有推电子基（英语：electron donating group）的4-苯基丁酸氯化物可以通过强氢键形成剂六氟异丙醇（HFIP），在收率大于90%的缓和反应条件下环化至1-四氢萘酮。^[15]

苯和γ-丁内酯在AlCl₃催化下酰化，可以生成1-四氢萘酮。^[9]

1-四氢萘酮在液氨中可被锂经伯奇还原反应还原成1,2,3,4-四氢化萘。^[16]加入氯化铵水溶液并等氨蒸发后，酮基也可被还原成仲醇，生成1-四氢萘醇。^[17]

1-四氢萘酮可以在-33 °C下被钙的液氨溶液还原成1-四氢萘醇，收率为81%。^[18]

酮基α位的亚甲基特别活泼，可以在N-甲基苯胺（英语：N-Methylaniline）的三氟乙酸盐存在下和三聚甲醛反应生成2-亚甲基-1-四氢萘酮，收率高达91%。

这种化合物在-5 °C以下稳定，但在室温下会在12小时内完全聚合。^[19]

1-四氢萘酮和靛红经普菲青格反应会生成一种名为tetrofan（3,4-二氢-1,2-苯并吖啶-5-羧酸）的化合物。

1-四氢萘酮和甲醇在270-290 °C的反应也利用α-亚甲基的反应性，通过脱氢和芳香萘环系的形成以66%的收率生成2-甲基-1-萘酚。^[20]

Synthese von 2-Methyl-1-naphthol

1-四氢萘酮的肟会跟乙酸酐反应，将环酮环芳构化（英语：aromatization），生成N-(1-萘基)乙酰胺。^[21]其生物性质类似于用作合成生长素的1-萘乙酸。

Synthese von N-(1-Naphthyl)acetamid

1-四氢萘酮和苯基溴化镁的格氏反应所生成的叔醇消除水后会跟乙酸酐反应，生成1-苯基-3,4-二氢化萘，使用硫磺脱水后生成1-苯基萘，总收率大约为45%。^[22]

在钌(II)催化下，1-四氢萘酮可被苯硼酸新戊二醇酯芳基化（英语：arylation），生成8-苯基-1-四氢萘酮，收率高达86%。^[23]

Synthese von 8-Phenyl-1-tetralon aus 1-Tetralon

通过5-氨基四唑和一个芳香醛，1-四氢萘酮在微波辐射下经过多组分反应（英语：multi-component reaction），生成四环杂环系统。^[24]

1-四氢萘酮最重要的应用是合成1-萘酚，^[25]而1-萘酚是杀虫剂甲萘威和Β受体阻滞剂普萘洛尔^[26]的前体。

在一次对兔子的毒理学研究中，1-四氢萘酮的半数致死量经计算为2192 mg·kg⁻¹。^[1]
