Étretat er en kommune i Frankrike, i departmentet Seine-Maritime i Normandie i det nordvestlige Frankrike. Det er en turist- og bondelandsby, beliggende om lag 32 km nordøst for Le Havre, i krysset mellom veiene D 940, D 11 og D 139, beliggende i Pays de Caux-området.

Étretat er best kjent for sine kalkklipper, inklusive tre naturlige buer og en formasjon kalt L'Aiguille (Nålen) som rager 70 meter over havoverflaten.[3] Etretat kalkkomplekset består av et kompleks stratigrafisk Turonian og Conisiansk kalklag.[4] Noen av buene rager så mye som 90 meter over havet.[3]
Disse klipper og den attraktive strand har tiltrukket kunstnere, inklusive Eugène Boudin, Gustave Courbet og Claude Monet.[3] De er omtalt og vist tydelig i Arsène Lupins novelle fra 1909 The Hollow Needle av Maurice Leblanc. De er også fremstilt i filmen fra 2024Lucy, regissert av Luc Besson.
To av de tre buene er synlige fra byen, Porte d'Aval og Porte d'Amont. Manneporte er den tredje og største og kan ikke sees fra byen.
Étretat er også kjent som siste sted i Frankrike hvor biplanet L'Oiseau Blanc var sist sett hvor de franske helter fra første verdenskrig, Charles Nungesser og François Coli sist ble sett under deres forsøk på å gjennomføre den første non-stop flyvning fra Paris til New York, som imidlertid etter flyets avgang 8. mai 1927 forsvant de et sted over Atlanterhavet. Et monument ble reist i Étretat, men rasert under andre verdendskrig, under den tyske okkupasjon. Et nytt og høyere monument ble reist i 1963, sammen med et museum i nærheten.[5]
Økonomien i Étretat hviler hovedsakelig på turisme, noe som gir de lokale bønder godt utkomme. Byen selv plasserer seg som den største turistattraksjon i det tidligere Normandie. Stedet er best besøkt sammen med et Bénédictinerdistilleri og museet i Fécamp, Rouen Katedralen og Claude Monet Foundation i Giverny.
På 1700- og 1800-tallet ble økonomien supplementert av tangbrenning på strendene. Den hvite røyken kan tydelig sees i George Inness' maleri Étretat (1875, Wadsworth Athenaeum). De ble Oppdaget samtidig med de jod-rike mineraldepoer i Chile og tangindustrien nådde full høyde, men fikk en annen alvorlig tilbakegang sent på 1870-tallet. Likevel, mindre kvanta blir forsatt høstet for soda, pottaske og jod i det nordlige Frankrike".[6]
