Hjellevannet er det nederste vannbassenget i Telemarksvassdraget. Vannet ligger i Skien kommune, og har tilløp fra Farelva og Falkumelva. Utløpet gikk opprinnelig ned i Skienselva gjennom fire fosser: Klosterfoss, Langfoss, Bollefoss og Damfoss. Fra 1500-tallet ble vannfallet mellom Hjellevannet og Skienselva utnyttet i en rekke fossesager. I dag er alle fossene demmet opp, og kraften tas ut ved Eidet kraftverk og Klosterfoss kraftverk.

Vannet er avgrenset av Klosterøya, Smieøya og Bruene i øst. I nord finner man bydelene Bakken og Hjellen. I vest er innløpet fra Farelva, og i sør ligger bydelen Gimsøy.
