In het voorgaande jaar waren N.E.C. en sc Heerenveen gedegradeerd. Hiervoor in de plaats kwamen De Graafschap en VVV.
PSV werd voor de tweede keer op rij landskampioen. VVV en De Graafschap degradeerden rechtstreeks en FC Den Haag degradeerde door verlies in een dubbel promotie-/degradatieduel met Go Ahead Eagles.
