Vija Celmiņa (Vija Celmins, dzimusi 1938. gada 25. oktobrī Rīgā) ir latviešu izcelsmes ASV gleznotāja un grafiķe, arī mākslas pasniedzēja. Viena no ievērojamākajām mūsdienu amerikāņu māksliniecēm, kas strādā hiperreālisma novirzienā.

Vija Celmiņa dzimusi 1938. gada 25. oktobrī Rīgā. Otrā pasaules kara beigās 1945. gadā viņa kopā ar vecākiem devās bēgļu gaitās uz Vāciju, bet 1948. gadā pārcēlās uz dzīvi Indianapolē ASV. Viņa studēja mākslu Indiānas Universitātes Herona Mākslas un dizaina skolā (Herron School of Art and Design), kuru beidza 1962. gadā. Gleznoja lielu dimensiju darbus tolaik valdošā abstraktā ekspresionisma manierē. No 1962. gada mita Klusā okeāna krastā Venises pilsētā pie Losandželosas Kalifornijā, kur iekārtoja savu darbnīcu. 1965. gadā ieguva mākslas maģistra grādu (MFA) un strādāja par glezniecības mācībspēku Kalifornijas Universitātē Irvainā (UC Irvine). Šā perioda darbos jūtama viņas interese par popārtu un hiperreālismu.
1980. gadā viņa pārcēlās uz Ņujorku un 90. gadu sākumā sāka strādāt pie darbu sērijas "Zirnekļa tīkls”. Izmantodama fotogrāfijas, Vija Celmiņa radīja gleznas un zīmējumus, kuros attēloja vienīgi ūdens virsmu, tuksneša smiltis un zvaigžņotās debesis.
Vijas Celmiņas personālizstādes un retrospektīvas sarīkotas daudzos muzejos un galerijās, tai skaitā Vitnijas Amerikāņu mākslas muzejā Ņujorkā (Whitney Museum of American Art, 1973, 1993), Deivida Makkī galerijā Ņujorkā (David McKee Gallery, 1983, 1988, 1992, 1995, 1996, 2001), Mūsdienu mākslas muzejā Losandželosā (Museum of Contemporary Art, 1994), Kartjē fondā Parīzē (Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain, 1995), Mūsdienu mākslas institūtā Londonā (Institute of Contemporary Art), Karalienes Sofijas Nacionālajā mākslas muzejā Madridē (Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofia), Vintertūras mākslas muzejā (Kunstmuseum Winterthur), Modernās mākslas muzejā Frankfurtē (Museum für Moderne Kunst, 1996—1997), Anthony d'Offay Gallery Londonā (1999), Metropolitēna muzejā Ņujorkā (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2002). Viņas darbi atrodas daudzos mākslas muzejos un galerijās ASV, tai skaitā Mūsdienu mākslas muzejā, Vitnijas muzejā un Metropolitēna muzejā Ņujorkā, Vašingtonas Nacionālajā galerijā, kā arī Pompidū centrā Parīzē. 2005. gadā viņa kopā ar dzejnieku Eliotu Veinbergeru publicēja grāmatu The Stars ("Zvaigznes") ar naksnīgo debesu attēliem angļu, arābu, ķīniešu, hindi, japāņu un maoru valodās.[1] 2008. gadā māksliniecei piešķīra vienu no augstākajām Eiropas mākslas balvām — Rosvitas Haftmanes balvu.[2]
V.Celmiņa savā agrīnajā daiļradē ar eļļas krāsām uz audekla un ogli uz papīra veidoja drīzāk draudīgu noskaņojumu, atkārtoti saistītu ar vardarbības tematu: šaujamierocis izstieptā rokā vai degošs vīrietis, kas izkāpj no automašīnas. Jo īpaši 1960. gados tapušie darbie atspoguļoja kara un iekšpolitisku agresiju rezultātā destabilizētu pasauli. Pēc 1990. gada māksliniece fotogravīras tehnikā melnos un pelēkos toņos attēloja tvertas naksnīgas debesis vai zirnekļa tīklus tuvskatā. Darbi bieži vien radīti mēnešiem ilgā procesā un «izrauj vērotāju no tveramās ikdienas, atdodot viņam mieru un laiku, ko tas zaudējis uz ielas un masu mediju ietekmē».[3]
Nikolajs Bulmanis savā recenzijā par Viju Celmiņu rakstīja. ka viņai "ir raksturīga spēja saskanīgi sakausēt un būtiski sintezēt mākslas darbā it kā pilnīgi pretrunīgas koncepcijas. Emocijas noliegums ikdienišķo priekšmetu atlasē, kas pati par sevi savā vizuālā prezentācijā ietveŗ visdziļāko cilvēka emociju − vientulību. Kolorītisks minimālisms, pilnīga atteikšanās no prīmārām krāsām, visa darba radīšana vienā pelēki brūnganā tonalitātē ietveŗ sevī lirisku kolorīta noskaņu, proti maiguma emociju. Šai kolorītiskajā lirismā Celmiņai šķiet sasaukšanās ar viņas cienīto Filipu Gastonu, kas amerikāņu mākslas vēsturē it bieži apzīmēts par abstrakto impresionistu. Un pāri visam kopējā Celmiņas mākslas ievirze it kā atspoguļo šo spēju pretpolu harmoniskā saaušanā. Ja šī kopējā ievirze ir it kā tiekšanās pēc vienkāršības un skaidrības, tad daiļrades process tā īstenošanai ir reizē pilnīgi intuitīvs un apbrīnojami mērķtiecīgs. Tā Celmiņas māksla savā intuitīvā ievirzē ir emocionāla un savā mērķtiecīgā augstas koncentrētības izpildē dziļi racionāla. Koncentrētā darbā radīts sirds un prāta sakausējums.
Celmiņas mākslas pamatā ir ikdienišķu lietu un dabas redzējums. Savā vienkāršībā un savstarpējo attiecību mērogā šis lietu un it īpaši dabas redzējums ir latvisks − intims. Celmiņa apveltīta ar izcilām darba spējām, kas izpaužas īsti profesionālā koncentrācijā, savus mākslinieciskos mērķus īstenojot. Darba tikums, spēja pastāvēt un tiekšanās pēc skaidrības ir talanti, ko Celmiņa apzinās mantojusi no saviem senčiem. „Manī ir latviešu zemnieces stiprums”, ar pārliecību saka māksliniece, reizē norādot, ka viņas personīgo vērtību skālā visu ietveŗošs humānisms ir nozīmīgāks par šauru nacionālu orientāciju."[4]
