Atlas (-ntis, m.) in mythologia Graeca fuit ex numero Titanum, filius Titanis Iapeti et Oceanidis Clymenes[1]. Nonnumquam etiam Themis ut mater nominatur. Fratres erant Menoetius, Prometheus[2] et Epimetheus. Atlas pater fuit Pleiadum, Hyadum et Hesperidum quae et Atlantiades nominantur; pater fuit et deae Calypsús.
Atlas cum aliis Titanibus in deos rebellans a Iove damnatus est ut caelum vastum suis umeris ad aeternum ferret[3]. Perseus ope capitis Gorgonis Medusae Atlantem in montem Atlantem mutavit.
