Spinacia oleracea, vulgo spinacia et spinachia (ab Arabico اسبانخ isbānaḫ vel اسفاناخ isfānāḫ, a Persico اسفناج isfanāǧ),[1] est edulis herba viridis in familia Amaranthacearum, in Asia Media et Meridionali endemica. Per etymologiam vulgarem, sed etiam quia planta in Europam pervenit ex Hispania, holus Hispanicum olim nominata est, sed apud Sinas holus Persicum (菠菜 bocai).
