A prefectura de Altai, en chinés 阿勒泰地区, en pinyin Ālètài Dìqū, en uigur ئالتاي ۋىلايىتى (transcrición: Altal Wilayiti), é unha división administrativa (prefectura) dependente da prefectura autónoma casaca de Ilí, situada no norte da rexión autónoma de Xinjiang, na República Popular da China.
Comparte fronteira internacional coa veciña República de Altai, Rusia.
Situada a unha altitude media de 887 msnm, a prefectura ten unha superficie de 118 015 km².
A súa poboación, no ano 2010, era de 603 283 habitantes, polo que a súa densidade de poboación nese ano era de 5,11 hab./km².
A súa capital é a cidade de Altai, que contaba cunha poboación no ano 2016 de 199 037 habitantes.[1]
As temperaturas medias varían desde aproximadamente -16,1 °C durante o mes máis frío a +22,0 °C durante o mes máis quente, cunha media anual de 4,3 °C (datos de 1991), e as precipitacións son de 175,3 mm (dato de 1990).[2]
A prefectua de Altai administra unha cidade e seis condados:
Do mesmo xeito que noutras prefecturas da Rexión Autónoma Uigur de Xinjiang, hai moitas minorías na de Altai, en particular casacos e uigures. No censo do ano 2000, a prefectura de Altai era a única subdivisión importante da prefectura autónoma de Ili Kazakh, cunha maioría étnica de casacos (aproximadamente o 51 %), seguida dos chineses han, con case o 41 %.
Nas escolas da prefectura, aos estudantes se lles imparten as clases principalmente en chinés (mandarín), pero hai cursos para estudar as linguascasaca e uigur.
En 2007 tiña un PIB de 9,9 millóns de renminbis, cunha taxa de crecemento do 12 %.
