Goa (en konkani: गोंय) é un estado da India, situado na súa costa occidental. É un dos máis pequenos estados en territorio e poboación, e máis rico en PIB por persoa da India. A capital é Pangim e Vasco da Gama é a cidade máis grande.

Goa a partir de 1510, foi a capital do Estado Portugués da India, incorporándose á Unión India en 1961.
Despois do imperio Maurya (321-185 a.C.) Goa foi disputada por varios imperios en batallas sanguentas. Por volta do século X Goa, entón concentrada en torno do río Zuari, prosperou polo comercio cos árabes. En 1347 caeu baixo dominio islámico, e moitos templos a deuses hindús foron destruídos.
En 1510 Afonso de Albuquerque, axudado por un xefe hindú, tomou Goa aos árabes, que se renderon sen combate, por se atopar o sultán en guerra co Decán. Goa foi cobizada por ser o mellor porto comercial da rexión. Botáronse aos musulmáns da rexión, e en 1453 un quinto da rexión estaba baixo dominio portugués, recibindo o nome de Vellas Conquistas.
A decadencia do porto de Goa no século XVII foi consecuencia das derrotas militares dos portugueses polos neerlandeses, no oriente, que tornaron o Brasil o centro económico de Portugal.
Houbo dous curtos períodos de dominación británica (1797-1798 e 1802-1813) e poucas outras ameazas externas despois deste período. Durante o dominio británico na India, moitos habitantes de Goa emigraron para Mumbai, Calcuta, Puna, Karachi e outras cidades. O illamento de Goa diminuíu coas vías férreas a partir de 1881, mais a emigración en busca de mellores oportunidades económicas aumentou.
En 1900 Goa tivo o seu primeiro xornal bilingüe gujarati-portugués.
Os ingleses deixaron a India en 1947, os franceses deixaron Pondicherri en 1954, mais o goberno de Salazar negouse a negociar coa India. En 1961 o exército indiano invadiu Goa, atopando pouca resistencia.
Daman e Diu desde o inicio, e moito máis tarde tamén Nagar-Aveli, estiveron ligados a Goa, baixo o nome de Estado da India Portuguesa, ligados non só pola administración, con centro en Goa, mais tamén por outros sentimentos, porén separados por cerca de 700 e 1500 km. Logo despois da integración na India aínda estiveron ligados a Goa, porén, cando esta deveu un Estado dentro da República da India, Daman e Diu pasaron a administrarse directamente polo Goberno Central da India, baixo o nome de Territorio da Unión de Daman e Diu (Union Territory Of Daman & Diu). Dadrá e Nagar-Aveli, integrados algúns anos antes na India (1954), forman un territorio á parte.
