As cataratas de Kegon (華厳滝 Kegon Taki?) localízanse no Lago Chuzenji (fonte do río Oshiri) no Parque Nacional de Nikko, preto da cidade de Nikkō, Prefectura de Tochigi, Xapón. As cataratas foron formadas cando o Río Daiya cambiou o seu curso polo fluxo de lava. Preto de doce fervenzas menores sitúanse detrás e dos lados das cataratas de Kegon, filtrándose a través de moitas fendas entre a montaña e fluxo de lava.

Con 97 m de altura, son unha das tres maiores fervenzas do Xapón. No outono, o tráfico na estrada de Nikko para Chuzenji pode ás veces aumentar cos visitantes que acoden a ver as cores do outono.
En 1927, as cataratas de Kegon foron recoñecidas como unha das "Oito Vistas" que mellor mostraban o Xapón e a súa cultura no período Showa.[1]
As cataratas de Kegon son famosas polos suicidios, especialmente entre os mozos xaponeses.[2]
Misao Fujimura (1886 – 22 de maio de 1903), un estudante xaponés de filosofía e poeta, é moi recordado polo seu poema de despedida escrito directamente sobre o tronco dunha árbore antes de cometer suicidio pulando polas cataratas de Kegon.
A historia pronto foi explotada de xeito sensacionalista en xornais da época e foi comentada polo famoso escritor Natsume Soseki, profesor no instituto de Fujimura, na súa novela Kusamakura (1906).[3][4] Isto levou a famosa fervenza a converterse nun lugar notorio onde mozos desesperados acaban coas súas propias vidas (Efecto Werther).[5]
