Georgian hallintoalue From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kakheti (georg. კახეთი) on hallintoalue (mkhare) Georgian itäosassa. Alueella on noin 318 583 asukasta (2014) ja sen pinta-ala on 11 310 neliökilometriä.[1] Kakhetin pääkaupunki on Telavi.

Kakheti oli itsenäinen ruhtinaskunta 700-luvulta lähtien. 1000-luvun alussa se liitettiin yhdistyneeseen Georgian kuningaskuntaan, mutta vain alle kymmenen vuoden ajaksi, ja vasta kuningas Davit IV onnistui valloittamaan Kakhetin pysyvästi. 1460-luvulla Georgian hajoamisen jälkeen Kakhetista tuli jälleen itsenäinen kuningaskunta. Vuonna 1762 Kakheti yhdistyi Kartlin kanssa Kartli-Kakhetin kuningaskunnaksi, jonka Venäjän keisarikunta liitti itseensä 1800-luvun alussa.
Kakheti rajautuu Venäjään (Suureen Kaukasukseen) pohjoisessa, Azerbaidžaniin idässä ja etelässä, Mtskheta-Mtianetiin luoteessa ja Kvemo Kartliin lounaassa. Kakhetin pohjoisosassa sijaitsee pieni Tušetin alue. Sen alueella sijaitsi keskiaikana myös Heretin keskiaikainen provinssi, jonka nimi on myöhemmin jäänyt pois käytöstä. Tärkeimmät Kakhetissa virtaavat joet ovat Alazani ja Iori.
