From Old Norse vaga, from Proto-Germanic *wagōną (“to move, stir”), cognate with Swedish vagga, English waw (obsolete), wag, German wagen (“to dare”), Dutch wagen (“to dare; to move”). Doublet of vove. The modern Danish form has been influenced by the previous noun.
