Funkcija
SNARE igraju vitalnu ulogu u prometu ćelijskoh tereta. Vezikule se spajaju sa ćelijskom membranom, uz pomoć SNARE proteina. SNARE motivi formiraju četveroheliksni snop koji doprinosi fuziji dvije membrane. Tačnije, N-terminalni domen vezuje se na SNARE motiv, a ova unutarmolekulska interakcija smanjuje stopu povezivanja sa partnerom SNARE. Međutim, funkcija domena N terminala još uvijek nije u potpunosti razjašnjena.[7]
Proteinski domen sintaksin-6 N-terminalni proteinski domen je rastvorljivi receptor proteina vezivanja faktora osetljivog na N-etilmaleimid (SNARE) koji se nalazi u endosomnom transportu vezikula. Dio je porodice ciljnih SNARE (t-SNARE). To je vitalna pomoć za unos i eksport ćelijskog tereta u procesu zvanom ćelijski promet. Njegov SNARE motiv pokazuje značajnu homologiju za sintaksinom 1A i S25C, što ukazuje na sličnost putem evolucijsko konzerviranje. N-terminalna struktura domena sintaksina-6 pokazuje snažnu strukturnu sličnost sa N-terminalnim domenima sintaksina 1A, Sso1p i Vam3p; uprkos veoma niskom nivou sličnosti sekvenci. SNARE u suštini funkcioniše kao privez za držanje vezikule. Citoplazmatski regioni SNARE koji se nalaze na transportnim vezikulama i ciljnim membranama djeluju međusobno, a zatim se formira zavojnica sa četiri heliksa. Ovo povezuje ćelijsku membranu i vezikule zajedno na takav način da prevazilazi energetsku barijeru za spajanje dva lipidna dvosloja. Ovo je način na koji se razmenjuje ćelijski teret. Ovaj konkretan unos fokusira se na N-terminalni domen sintaksina 6.[8]
Pokazalo se da STX6 ima interakcije sa SNAP23,[9] VAMP3[10] i VAMP4.[10]
