目前,地质学的中文术语与英文术语,对华南板块与扬子板块所指的概念正好是反着的。在中文术语中,华南板块的范围更大,从秦岭淮河一直到中琉界沟,包括了扬子板块(即扬子克拉通)与华夏地块(华夏板块)。而在英文中,South China Continent(即Yangtze Craton),是指中文的扬子板块这个比较小的概念;而Yantze Continent是指中文的华南板块这个更大的概念。不过,“扬子克拉通”这个名称中英文是一致的,因为其南邻的华夏地块无论如何不能算是一个克拉通。
