玉螺科

玉螺科（学名：Naticidae）是一个微小到大型捕食性海螺的一个科，都是玉黍螺类支序的海洋腹足纲软体动物。本科物种的螺壳大多呈球体状（包括有：圆球形、卵球形及耳形^[2]）。其物种可食用^[3]。

玉螺科是玉螺总科的唯一一个分类单元。

分布及多样性

现时世上估计有约260到270个现生的玉螺科物种^[1]。这些物种估计最早出现于三叠纪后期或侏罗纪早期^[1]，其螺壳的独特型态或捕食行为都可将它们与其他物种分辨过^[1]。

本科物种广泛分布于全世界。无论是在物种的数量以至到属的数量，玉螺科的多样性在热带地区都很高；即使如此，本科物种亦广泛分布于温带及南北极的水域^[1]。

栖息地

本科物种皆栖息于沙质 substrates, at a great variety of depths depending on the species (from the intertidal zone to thousands of meters in depth)^[1]。They are often seen ploughing along in the sand searching for prey.

玉螺科物种皆为掠食性的，主要的捕食对象为双壳类。它们还会攻击几乎所有在沙上遇到的其他贝类软体动物，例如掘足纲或其他腹足类物种，包括其他玉螺科物种^[1]。此外，Conuber sordidum会透过在长腕和尚蟹（Mictyris longicarpus）的头胸甲上钻孔而捕食它们^[4][1][5]。而为了捕捉这些沙蟹类物种，玉螺科物种会采取与捕猎其它有壳的软体动物相同的策略^[5]。

玉螺会先将猎物包围，然后以其齿舌及酸性分泌物在其猎物的壳中“融溶”出一个洞。一但这个壳钻开了，就把口器伸进洞里吃掉猎物的肉。此洞外观上是有倒角的锥形孔, 其大小依物种与体型而定, 是判断玉螺猎食的特征.

In the breeding season, the female moon snail lays a rather stiff egg mass which includes sand and mucus. These objects wash up on sandy beaches fairly often, and are known by the common name "sand collars" because of their resemblance to an old-fashioned removable shirt collar or false-collar.

分类学

传统分类

玉螺科原是凤螺总科的成员^[6]，后来独立出来成为独自一个总科。 传统上，部分学者按将本科物种分作下列四个亚科^[7][2]：

• Ampullospirinae：主要是化石种。
• 玉螺亚科 Naticinae：壳圆球形，有脐孔但常被脐盘隔开，口盖厚而外侧为钙质^[2]。
• 无脐玉螺亚科 Polinicinae Gray, 1847：又名大玉螺亚科^[2]或乳玉螺亚科^[6]:131，壳卵球形，有脐孔但常被滑层或脐盘填塞，口盖角质而且很薄^[2]。
• 广口玉螺亚科 Sininae：又名窦螺亚科^[6]:173，壳卵形或耳形，壳表常有细螺沟，脐孔小或无。口盖角质比壳口为小^[2]。

这种分类主要是从形态学的角度去分类，包括有^{[8][9][7][10]}：

• 口盖的特质：玉螺亚科物种均为钙质，而Polinicinae及Sininae均为角质但厚薄或相对壳口的大小不同^[2]；
• 螺壳的形态，例如：形状、螺沟等。
