Chlamyphoridae, Cingulata takımında sınıflandırılan bir memeli familyasıdır Glyptodontinae alt familyası geleneksel olarak günümüz armadillolarının oluşturan grubun dışında kök grup zırhlı memeliler olarak kabul edilmiş olsalar da artık günümüzde soyu tükenmiş Dasypodidae familyasının morfolojik kanıtlara dayanarak parafiletik olabileceği yönünde spekülasyonlar yapılmıştı.[1][2][3][4] 2016 yılında yapılan Doedicurus mtDNA analizi, bu grubun Chlamyphorinae ve Tolypeutinae alt familyalarının oluşturduğu bir kladın kardeş grubu olduğunu ve günümüz armadilloları arasına yerleşmiş olduğunu gösterdi.[5][6] Bu nedenle Dasypus haricinde soyu tükenmiş tüm armadillolar yeni bir familya içinde sınıflandırılmaya başlandı.
