Izumi Province (和泉国, Izumi no kuni) was an old province of Japan in the area of Osaka Prefecture on the island of Honshū.[1]
Izumi Province was created during the reign of Empress Genshō.[2]
In the Meiji period, the provinces of Japan were converted into prefectures. Maps of Japan and Izumi Province were reformed in the 1870s.[3]
Ōtori Shrine was the chief Shinto shrine (ichinomiya) of Izumi.[4]
