It borders on Rostov Oblast, Krasnodar Krai, the Republic o Kalmykie, the Republic o Dagestan, the Chechen Republic, the Republic o North Ossetie-Alanie, the Kabardino-Balkar Republic, an the Karachay–Cherkess Republic.
