Stasjonen er en av de eldste undergrunnsstasjonene i Berlin og den er kjent for art nouveau-inngangshallen fra 1913. Bygningen ble skadet under andre verdenskrig og måtte gjenoppbygges etter krigen.[1]
Wittenbergplatz ligger i den østlige delen av handlegaten Tauentzienstraße som blant annet inneholder kjøpesenteret Kaufhaus des Westens (kortform KaDeWe).
