Rosenmåka blir omkring 29–32 cm og veier typisk cirka 120–250 g. Vingespennet utgjør cirka 82–92 cm. Fjærdrakten er hovedsakelig hvit med lys grå overside og en karakteristisk svart, tynn ring som renner over bakhodet, ned kinnene og rundt halsen på fuglen i hekketiden. Ringen mangler utenfor hekketiden. Nebbet er sort og de undere ekstremitetene gule.[1]
