Giovanni Battista Piranesi (født 4. oktober 1720 i Mogliano Veneto, Italia, død 9. november 1778 i Roma, Italia) var en italiensk kunstner, gravør og arkitekt.

Piranesi er kjent for sine storslåtte etsninger av Romas ruiner, av fantasibyer og gigantiske fengsler. Han uttrykte sine dype kunnskaper i arkeologi i skildringer av imaginære fengsler, ruiner, hvelv og arkader fylte av sterkt kontrasterende lys og mørke skygger.[trenger referanse] Hans landskapsmalerier var påvirket av Claude Lorrains skildringer og hjalp i sin tur til å skape et mønster for det italienske, romantiske landskapsmaleriet.[trenger referanse]
Blant hans store produksjon av etsninger og stikk er Carceri d'invenzione (Fengelsesserien), en serie plater utgitt 1750. Sønnen Francesco (cirka 1758-1810) fullbyrdet og ga ut på nytt mange av hans plater.
Få av Piranesis arkitektoniske prosjekt ble virkeliggjort, men på Aventinerhøyden i Roma oppførte han kirken Santa Maria del Priorato (1764-1766) til Malteserordenen. Fasaden, som har en nyklassisistisk preg, er utstyrt med sammenvevde pilastrer og heraldiske emblem og andre ornamenter på en måte som minner om romerske felttegn.[trenger referanse]
