Cisterne eller sisterne (latin: cisterna, som er avledet fra cista, som betyr kiste/kasse, som igjen kommer fra det greske ordet kistê, hvilket betyr kurv) er en beholder for væske, vanligvis vann. Sisterner bygges oftest for å samle inn og lagre regnvann. Sisterner skiller seg fra brønner ved deres vanntette kledning. Moderne sisterner har kapasitet fra å holde på noen få liter til å være store vanntanker som oppbevare flere kubikkmeter, noe som gjør dem til vannreservoarer.
Sisterner tettet med gips og kalk er avdekket i neolittiske landsbyer i Midtøsten, eksempelvis ved Ramad og Lebwe,[1] og ved slutten av 3000-tallet f.Kr., som ved Jawa i nordøstlige Libanon, var sisterner vesentlig nyskapende teknikker for vannhåndtering i varme og tørre jordbrukssamfunn.[2]
