Brattørveita er en av Trondheims eldste gater og ligger i strøket Nerbyn i Midtbyen. Veita strekker seg 206 meter mellom Søndre gate i vest, og Kjøpmannsgata i øst, og har en tverrgående gate på 75 meter mellom Brattørgata og Fjordgata, som gjør at Brattørveita danner et kryss. Det antas at dette løpet er identisk med middelalderens Gjæilar, og på 1600-tallet var denne smale veita en av byens hovedtrafikkområder. På 1700-tallet også kalt Nordfarergaten.[1]

Bebyggelsen i området består av trehus oppført etter 1842-brannen og murhus oppført i annen halvdel av 1800-tallet, samt nyere bebyggelse. Brattørveita ble bevart som gatesystem etter bybrannen i 1681 og har fungert som et sekundært gatenett. Deler av gaten var til tider preget av hærverk og graffiti, men opprydningsarbeid og istandsetting er iverksatt fra 2017.[2] Et annet folkelig navn rundt 1900 for den delen av veita som lå lengst nord var Pissveita, som trolig har sammenheng med at Trondhjems Brændevinssamlag hadde utsalg i Fjordgata 7.
