De vlekstaarthaai^[3] (Carcharhinus sorrah) is een haai uit de familie van de requiemhaaien.^[4]^[5]

De vlekstaarthaai komt voor in de Indische Oceaan en het westen van de Grote Oceaan. Meer in detail in de Rode Zee^[5] en ten oosten van Afrika^[5] (inclusief Madagaskar,^[5] Mauritius^[6] en de Seychellen).^[5] Verder naar het westen van de Filipijnen^[7] naar het noorden tot China^[5] en naar het zuiden tot Australië^[8] en bij de Salomonseilanden.^[5]
