Pada 30 Januari 2007, Menteri Pengangkutan telah mencadangkan membuka Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Don Mueang untuk sementara bagi memberi laluan kepada pembaikan landasan di Suvarnabhumi. Cadangan ini perlu menurut kebenaran daripada kabinet tertinggi kerajaan. Pada 25 Mac 2007, terminal lapangan terbang dibuka semula secara rasmi.

Thai carrier Nok Air in Northern winter 2023/24 season intends to expand service to India, where the airline tentatively lists Bangkok Don Mueang – Gaya – Varanasi – Bangkok Don Mueang triangle route. This service is currently listed as 3 weekly flights with Boeing 737-800, between 01NOV23 and 28FEB24.
Thai carrier Nok Air from mid-February 2023 intends to resume service to India, as the airline filed operational schedule for the new Bangkok Don Mueang – Hyderabad route.

In support of the Government's plan to establish Thailand as a regional aviation hub and to provide better and seamless connectivity to its guests, Thai AirAsia X (XJ) will be relocating all of its flight operations to Don Mueang Airport (DMK) starting 1 October 2024.
The relocation follows successful coordination with, and is being facilitated by Airports of Thailand Plc. and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand. Thai AirAsia X currently operates from Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Effective 1 October, Thai AirAsia X guests flying to Seoul, South Korea; Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Sapporo in Japan; Shanghai, China and Sydney, Australia will be departing from Don Mueang Airport.
Thai AirAsia X from August 2024 plans to resume service to Nagoya, as the airline schedules Bangkok Suvarnabhumi – Nagoya route, after 4-year hiatus (previously served from Bangkok Don Mueang).
Airbus A330-300 aircraft will operate this route 4 times weekly from 01AUG24.
Thai AirAsia X in Northern winter 2024/25 season schedules domestic service, as the airline plans to operate A330-300 aircraft on Bangkok Don Mueang – Phuket route. From 01DEC24, the A330 will operate this route 4 times weekly.
Thai AirAsia X in late-March 2023 plans to resume service to Shanghai, as the airline schedules Bangkok Suvarnabhumi – Shanghai Pu Dong flights. The carrier previously operated from Bangkok Don Mueang until 2020.
Thai AirAsia X (XJ) will temporarily suspend services between Sydney and Bangkok effective 1 August 2024 - 30 November 2024 as part of its fleet management and operation hub movement. The airline will resume these services in December 2024 with additional flight frequencies and better connectivity to key onward destinations in the AirAsia Group network, which will be updated in the near future.

Thai AirAsia X in recent weeks filed additional changes to its planned Bangkok Don Mueang – Tokyo Narita service during Northern winter 2024/25 season. From 27OCT24, the airline will operate this route 18 weekly, instead of previously filed 16-17 weekly.

Thai Lion Air in late-April 2023 plans to add new service to India, where the airline schedules Bangkok Don Mueang – Bangalore nonstop flight, with Boeing 737-800 aircraft. First flight departs Bangkok on 24APR23, with 4 weekly flights scheduled.
Thai Lion Air from May 2024 intends to add Bangkok Don Mueang – Beijing Daxing service, initially with 737-800 aircraft. Schedule listing sees the airline plans to operate 4 weekly flights from 02MAY24 at earliest.
Thai Lion Air has revised planned service addition to Chennai and Kolkata. Previously planned to commence in November, the airline has re-scheduled launch date for both destinations to mid-December 2024, although further adjustments remain likely.

At the launch of Northern summer 2023 season, all international/regional service to/from Chengdu will shift from Chengdu Shuangliu (成都双流; CTU) to Chengdu Tianfu (成都天府; TFU), with the exception of Vietnam Airlines, as it continues to list service to/from Shuangliu (CTU) from Da Nang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
