Daniel Robert Elfman (lahir 29 Mei 1953) ialah seorang komposer, penyanyi, dan penulis lagu Amerika. Dia menjadi terkenal sebagai penyanyi-penulis lagu untuk band new wave Oingo Boingo pada awal 1980-an.[4] Sejak 1990-an, Elfman telah mendapat pengiktirafan antarabangsa kerana mengarang lebih 100 Skor Muzik Untuk filem,[5] serta gubahan untuk televisyen, produksi pentas dan konsert.

Daniel lahir pada 29 Mei 1953[16] di Los Angeles, California. Beliau anak kedua dan bongsu dalam sebuah keluarga berketurunan Yahudi[17] dari imigran Poland dan Rusia;[18] ibunya Claire Blossom Elfman (nama keluarga asal: Bernstein) seorang penulis novel dan guru manakala ayahnya Milton Elfman seorang pengajar dalam Tentera Udara Amerika Syarikat.[19] Beliau dibesarkan dalam sebuah kejiranan majmuk kaum yang kaya di Baldwin Hills, California,[20] di sanalah beliau mula didedahkan kepada seni wayang di panggung wayang gambar setempatnya terutamanya penggubahan beberapa komposer utama seperti Bernard Herrmann dan Franz Waxman.
Beliau sering berkawan dengan banyak rakan sebaya yang berada dalam panacaragam sekolahnya. Malah pada usia ini juga beliau memulakan suatu kugiran ska. Beliau berhenti sekolah untuk mengikuti abangnya Richard ke Perancis[21] menganggotai sebuah kugiran teater muzikal di sana iaitu Le Grand Magic Circus.[22]
In 1972, Richard Elfman mengasaskan suatu kugiran genre new wave bernama The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo; mereka melakukan seberapa persembahan sepanjang tahun dekad 1970-an
In 1985, beliau mula menceburi penggubahan lagu setelah mendapat tawaran dari Tim Burton dan Paul Reubens menggubah skor muzik filem Pee-wee's Big Adventure; beliau mendapat bantuan daripada rakan sekugirannya Steve Bartek untuk melaksanakan tugas ini..[23]
