കരടി കുടുംബത്തിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു സസ്തനിയാണ് ഭീമൻ പാണ്ട. വെള്ളുപ്പും കറുപ്പും നിറമാണ് ഇവക്ക്. അഴകുള്ള മൂക്കും ഉരുണ്ട കണ്ണുകള്ളും വെളുത്ത രോമങ്ങള്ളുള്ള മുഖവും മൃദുരോമങ്ങൾ നിറഞ്ഞ ചെവിയുമാണ് പാണ്ടകൾക്. മധ്യചൈനയിലെ സിഞ്ചുവാൻ,ഷാൻസി,ഗ്യൻസു തുടങ്ങിയ പർവത പ്രദേശങ്ങളും തെക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഭാഗത്തുള്ള വനത്തിലും പടിങ്ങാറൻ മലനിരകൾക്കു സമീപത്തുള്ള മുളംങ്കാടുകളിലുമാണു ഇവയെ കാണുന്നത്.
