Alka (alkas, latg. alks, latv. elks) – baltų religijoje šventvietė (alkakalnis, šventoji giraitė) ir aukojimo vieta. Įvedus krikščionybę, alkų vietose buvo pastatyti kryžiai, koplytstulpiai, stogastulpiai.
Publijus Kornelijus Tacitas rašytiniuose šaltiniuose paminėjo, kalbant apie nahanarvalų gentis I a.[1] latvių elks, prūsų, lietuvių kalbose žinoma kaip alka yra indoeuropietiško kalbinio paveldo dalis. Indoeuropiečių al- ar alk-/elk- žodžių šaknys žymi religinę reikšmę turinčius žodžius, dauguma jų – sakraliniai terminai (liet. alkas, alka, latv. elks „šventykla“, t. p. latv. „stabas“, got. alhs „maldykla“, „šventykla“, plg. s. angl. ealʒian „saugoti“, „ginti“ nuo piktųjų dvasių ir pan.).[2][3]
Dažniausiai alka būdavo įrengiama atviroje vietoje, pvz., aukštumoje, ant kalno (alkakalnyje), šventoje giraitėje, nedideliame lauke arba pievoje prie upelių kur auga šventasis medis. Kartais alkos randamos prie piliakalnių. Alkos buvo laikomos šventomis vietomis, apgaubtos ypatinga pagarba.
Alkose įrengdavo aukurą, kuriame kūrendavo amžinąją (šventąją) ugnį. Jose aukodavo jaučius, avinus, ožius ir kitus gyvūnus. Alkavietėse randama mirusiųjų kaulų, tai rodo, kad čia buvo laidojama. Nuo neolito laikotarpio aukojant daužydavo molinius indus, tikint, kad dužimo garsas nukreipia blogąsias dvasias. Paprotys daužyti indus per laidotuves, vestuves, krikštynas dalinai išlikęs iki mūsų dienų.
Lietuvoje yra ~120 vietovardžių, susijusių su alka (33 % pievų pavadinimai, 19 % upių, ežerų, raistų, 17 % kalnelių, 10 % kaimų),[4] keletas žymesnių pavyzdžių: Alka (Molėtų raj.) ir Alka (Šilutės raj.), Alkai (Utenos raj.), Alkakalnis, Alkaragis ir Antalksnė prie Linkmenų (Ignalinos raj.), Alkas (Kretingos raj.), Alkaupis (Šilalės raj.), Alkavietė (Rokiškio raj.), Alkinė (Ukmergės raj.).
