Aknysta – miestas Latvijos pietryčiuose, Jekabpilio savivaldybėje, prie Susėjos upės, netoli Lietuvos sienos, apie 10 km į šiaurės rytus nuo Juodupės. 1036 gyventojai (2021 m.).[1] Plentai į Daugpilį, Jekabpilį, Rygą.

Istoriniuose šaltiniuose pirmąkart paminėta 1298 m. XVII a. pabaigoje įtraukta į Abiejų Tautų Respublikos sudėtį. 1795 m. po Trečiojo ATR padalijimo įtraukta į Rusijos sudėtį, priklausė Kauno gubernijai.
1921 m., pagal Lietuvos-Latvijos sienos sutartį, Alūkstos apskričiai priklausiusios etniškai mišrios žemės iki Susėjos upės atiduotos Latvijai, mainais į Šventosios ir Palangos pajūrį. Nuo 1950 m. miesto tipo gyvenvietė, 1950–1956 m. buvo rajono centras. 1991 m. suteiktos miesto teisės. 2009–2021 m. buvo Aknystos savivaldybės centras.
Aknystoje ir valsčiuje iš seno gyventa lietuvių. 1925 m. valsčiuje buvo 408 lietuviai, veikė keturių klasių lietuvių mokykla. XX a. pab. Aknystoje ir jos apylinkėse (Liuobų, Riūkų, Skardupio kaimuose) lietuviai sudarė apie 10 % gyventojų. Nuo 1993 m. Aknystos mokykloje 2-11 klasių mokiniams lietuvių kalba dėstoma fakultatyviai. 1998 m. įkurta Aknystos lietuvių kultūros draugija, veikia moterų folkloro ansamblis „Sutartinė“. Aknystos Šv. Ignaco Lojolos bažnyčioje du kartus per metus būna lietuviškos pamaldos.[2]
