Vetus Testamentum usuram prohibet, ut ex his locis patet:

  • "si pecuniam mutauam dederis populo meo pauperi qui habitat tecum, non urgebis eum quasi exactor, nec usuris opprimes", Liber Exodus, 22:25.
  • "non foenerabis fratri tuo ad usuram pecuniam, nec fruges, nec quamlibet aliam rem", Liber Deuteronomii, 23:19.

Aristoteles etiam usuram condemnat, "ipse pecuniam parit" dicens et "contra naturam" eam habens;
