Post carcerem et exsulium praeses meret Liberiae a die 16 Ianuarii 2006. Anno 2011 una cum Leymah Gbowee et Tawakkul Karman Praemium Nobelianum pacis componendae accepit. Mense Decembri 2021, Iacobus Sirleaf unus ex filiis Ellen Sirleaf mortuus est in habitatione sua in Liberia ignotis.
