Virus bacteriophagum[1] (e verbis Graecis βακτήριον/bacterion, id est 'bacillum' et φαγεῖν/phagein, i.e. 'vorare', vulgo etiam phagum tantum appellatur) est virus bacteria petens, ut ab illis reproducatur.
Bacteriophaga praedita sunt loricà proteicà, quae capsa dicitur et materiam geneticam custodit. Materies genetica constat simplici aut duplici filamine sive acidi ribonucleici sive acidi deoxyribonucleici. Bacteriophagorum magnitudo inter 20 et 200 nanometra est, multo minor quam illa bacteriorum, quae inficit.
