Placenta (e verbo Graeco πλακοῦς, "libum")[1] in opere culinario Romano fuit libum magna assiduitate factum e farina alica caseoque. Sub eodem nomine scriblitae vel crusta, simpliciora quam placentae Catonianae sed non omnino dissimilia, in Romania tempore nostro conficiuntur. Idem nomen, a Dacoromanica mutuatum, cuppediis generis lucunculorum applicatur in Hungaria (palacsinta), Austria (Palatschinke), Slovacia (palacinka), Slovenia et Croatia (palačinka). Placenta antiqua nomen suum Latinitati recentiori linguisque vernacularibus dedit in sensu novo placentae uterinae, in re botanica etiam usitatum.
