ヴィンセント・デヴィータ

ヴィンセント・デヴィータ（Vincent Theodore DeVita, Jr., MD 1935年3月7日 - ）はアメリカ合衆国の医師、腫瘍学におけるパイオニア。元アメリカがん協会 President。イェール大学医学大学院教授。元アメリカ国立がん研究所 director。がん化学療法における研究で知られ、1972年にはAlbert Lasker Clinical Medical Research Awardを受賞した^[1]。

略歴

アメリカ合衆国ニューヨーク州ニューヨーク市ブロンクス区にて生まれる^[2]。1957年にウィリアム・アンド・メアリー大学にて学士（理学）(Bachelor of Science)を取得、1961年にジョージ・ワシントン大学にて博士（医学）(Doctor of Medicine)を取得した^[3]。

アメリカ国立がん研究所(NCI)に勤務し、1980年にはNCIおよび国家癌プログラム（National Cancer Program）のdirector に任命され^[4]、1988年まで務めた。

1993年から2003年まではイェールがんセンター（英語: Yale Cancer Center）にてDirectorを務めた。現在はイェールがんセンター諮問委員会の委員長であり、イェール大学医学大学院の内科学及び疫学・公衆衛生学の教授を務めている。

数多くの学術誌にて編集委員を務めており、また450以上の論文の著者・共著者である。 Cancer: Principles and Practice of Oncology の編集者の一人であることやThe Cancer Journalのeditor-in-chief^[5]であることでも知られる。

2015年のケン・バーンズの作成したPBSドキュメンタリーCancer (ドキュメンタリー)（英語: Cancer (film)）に参加している。

NCI

NCIでは、ホジキンリンパ腫等に対する根治的化学療法のための多剤併用化学療法の開発に尽力した。1964年にMOPP療法（英語: MOPP (chemotherapy)）として知られる4剤併用化学療法を同僚とともに開発、当時ほぼ0%であった進行期ホジキンリンパ腫の治癒率を70%にまで上昇させた^[6][7]。この業績を評され、1972年にはAlbert Lasker Clinical Medical Research Awardを受賞している^[1]。

さらに、en:George Canellosと共同で、CMF療法（英語: CMF (chemotherapy)）と呼ばれる化学療法のレジメンを開発した。乳がん術後化学療法としてこのCMF療法を用いることで、手術単独では27か月後に24.0%であった再発率が5.3%にまで低下した^[8]。乳がんの術後補助療法として、第一世代の標準治療薬となった^[9]のみならず、心機能障害がある場合などには現在でもこのCMF療法が用いられる^[10][11]。
