O software de código aberto (Open-source software, OSS en inglés) é un tipo de programas de ordenador no que o código fonte é liberado baixo unha licenza na que o posuidor do dereito de copia garante ós usuarios o dereito de estudo, cambio e distribución a calquera e para calquera propósito.[1] Este tipo de programas pode ser desenvolto de xeito colaborativo, sendo un exemplo destacado de colaboración aberta.[2]
O seu desenvolvemento pode brindarse en diferentes perspectivas máis aló dunha única compañía. Un informe de 2008 do Grupo Standish estableceu que a adopción de programas de código aberto teñen resultado en aforros duns 60 000 millóns de $ cada ano para os consumidores.[3][4]
