Le prométhium (Pm, numéro atomique 61) n'a pas d'isotopes stables. Trois radioisotopes existent à l'état de traces dans la nature : 147Pm, 149Pm et 151Pm, produits de fissions respectivement de 151Eu par désintégration alpha, de 149Nd et de 151Nd par désintégration β−. Ces trois isotopes se désintègrent par voie β−. 151Eu est un isotope quasi stable et le seul « ancêtre » ayant une abondance naturelle non nulle, l'isotope 147Pm est donc majoritaire dans la nature. C'est un élément « quasi synthétique », produit pour la première fois en 1945.
