Alue on kuulunut useasti Puolaan, vielä Riian rauhassa 1921 alue vahvistettiin Puolaan kuuluvaksi. Stoubtsy liitettiin osaksi Valko-Venäjän sosialistista neuvostotasavaltaa (BSSR) vuonna 1939. Historia näkyy väestörakenteessa: Väestöstä noin 68,8 % taustaltaan valkovenäläisiä, 23,4 % puolalaisia ja noin 6 % venäläisiä.[1]
Kaupunki sijaitsee Itämereen laskevan Niemenin yläjuoksulla, joen koillisrannalla. Nykyisistä liikenneyhteyksistä tärkeimpiin kuuluvat Minskistä saapuva ja kaupungin pohjoispuolitse kiertävä Varsova-Brest-Baranavitšy-Stoubtsy-Dzjaržynsk-Minsk-Orša-Moskova-moottoritie M1 (eurooppatie E30) sekä samansuuntainen rautatie. Stoubtsyssä on tämän pääradan rautatieasema. [3][4][5]
