Häly merkitsee akustiikan terminä epäsäännöllisten, jaksottomien värähdysten muodostamaa ääntä. Toisin kuin sävelellä, hälyllä ei siis ole määrättyä sävelkorkeutta.[1].
Häly on myös musiikkitermi. Niinpä monilla lyömäsoittimilla kuten rummuilla ei saada määräkorkuisia säveliä, ainoastaan säveltasoltaan epämääräisiä hälyääniä.[2] Länsimaisessa taidemusiikissa on yleistynyt 1900-luvun jälkipuoliskolta akustisille soittimille aiemmin epätyypillisten soittotapojen käyttö, konkreettiselle musiikille sukua oleva hälymusiikki. Sen tärkeimpiin edustajiin ja edelläkävijöihin kuuluu saksalainen säveltäjä Helmut Lachenmann.[3]
Fonetiikassa hälyllä tarkoitetaan äänteen piirrettä, joka syntyy ääntöväylän supistumakohdassa pyörteisen eli turbulentin ilmavirtauksen vaikutuksesta. Sellainen kuuluu moniin konsonantteihin, varsinkin frikatiiveihin, ja varsinkin spiranteissa se on varsin voimakas.[4][5]
