Makabearrek zuzendutako armada judu matxinoak Judea bereganatu zuen, garai haietan Seleukotar Inperioko probintzia bat besterik ez zena. Asmondar leinua eratu zuten, K.a. 164 eta K.a. 63 artean agintean egon zena. Judaismo berrezarri zuten, askotan fede-aldaketa behartuen bitartez, mugak zabaldu eta helenismoaren eragina gutxitu zuten. Haien garaipena gogoratzeko, egungo juduek Hanukkah ospatzen dute.[2]
