Inherited from Old Punjabi ਹੁਣਿ (huṇi), from Prakrit 𑀅𑀳𑀼𑀡𑀸 (ahuṇā), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀅𑀥𑀼𑀦𑀸 (adhunā), from Sanskrit अधुना (adhunā́).
