Attested as blào in the Dictionarium Annamiticum Lusitanum et Latinum (1651).
Even if this word was not derived from Chinese 潮 (cháo) (SV: triều) (since it is not possible to expain the labial-lateral ‹bl-› cluster attested in Middle Vietnamese with 潮), trào almost certainly received significant semantic influence from the Sinitic word.
Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 潮 (“tide”, SV: triều).
Might be considered Sino-Vietnamese proper and not just a non-Sino-Vietnamese reading.
