From Dutch tocht (“march, trip”), from Proto-Germanic *tuhtiz (“pulling”), cognate with German Zucht (“discipline”) and Middle Low German tucht (“discipline”) (whence Danish tugt). The Germanic noun is derived from the verb *teuhaną (“to lead, pull”), cf. German ziehen.
