A singularized plural of *pitë, from Proto-Albanian *pītu-, related to Lithuanian piẽtus (“noon meal, lunch”), Sanskrit पितु (pitú, “feeding, drink”), Old Irish ithid (“to eat”).[1] Compare pitë (“pastry”).
