- to drive in, hit, strike so that something goes into something else
- iesist naglu dēlī ― to drive a nail into a log (by hitting it, e.g. with a hammer)
- iesist mietu zemē ― to drive a pole into the ground (by hitting it)
- iesist bumbu vārtos ― to drive the ball into the (soccer) goal (by kicking it)
- iesist vārtus ― to score a goal (lit. to drive, hit a goal in)
- iesist volejbola bumbu tīklā ― to drive the volleyball into the net
- vējš iesit krusu sejā ― the wind drives the hail into (one's) face
- milzis muļķīti iesit līdz ceļiem zemē ― the giant drove the fool into the ground up to his knees (by hitting him)
